About the Artist

Welcome to the official website of Gros Ngolle Pokossi, an accomplished Cameroonian bassist renowned for his mastery of electric bass and versatile artistry spanning Afrobeat, jazz, funk, ethnomusic, and contemporary pop. With extensive experience in live performance, studio recording, and musical composition, Gros has collaborated with internationally acclaimed artists including Decording Society, Trilok Gurtu, Claude Chalhoub, Nneka, and Frank McComb.

Current Projects

His current artistic endeavor, Gros Pokossi & Band, represents an innovative fusion of traditional jazz standards with authentic African rhythms. The project reimagines classics such as "Giant Steps," "Freedom Jazz Dance," and "All Blues" through the lens of traditional Cameroonian grooves including Mangabeu, Soukouss, and Makossa. The repertoire features both reimagined standards and original compositions, with multilingual vocals performed in English, Bakaka, and Douala—reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Cameroon.
